Governor Appoints Another Log Cabin Member to State Council
Sacramento – Log Cabin announced that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Don Norte of Hollywood, Ca to the California Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Committee is charged with developing a comprehensive strategy to assist disabled youth and adults to enter the workforce by focusing on the needs and interests of the worker, the employer, and the community.
Mr. Norte’s career covers over twenty years of public service with Federal, State, and local government, including the US Defense Logistics Agency and the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Mr. Norte holds a BA from Montclair State University in New Jersey , and Masters Degree from New York University ’s Robert F. Wager School of Public Service. Norte served on the Board of Directors and later as President of the California Public Parking Association. Don has been employed by the City of West Hollywood ’s Department of Transportation and Public Works since 1990 and currently holds the position of Parking Services and Development Officer for the City’s parking division. Norte currently serves on the board of Log Cabin Republicans – Los Angeles and he resides in Hollywood with his partner, Kevin Norte. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no salary.

Log Cabin is focusing its efforts on recruiting LGBT Republicans for appointment to positions of influence and public service at the state and local level. Governor Schwarzenegger has appointed over twenty LGBT staff, board, commission and other appointees. Don Norte joins Len Olds who was appointed last week to the California Council for the Humanities as well as openly gay State Commission and Board appointees; Jon Stordahl (Commission on Teacher Credentialing); Patrick Adams (Fair Employment and Housing Commission); Greg Gandrud (Recreational Trails Committee); and Rory Diamond (Student Aid Commission) among other political appointees.
Log Cabin Republicans, founded in California , is the nation’s largest organization of Republicans, who support fairness, freedom, and equality for gay and lesbian Americans. Log Cabin has state and local chapters nationwide, a Washington office, a Sacramento office and a federal political action committee.
