Why We Can’t Pull Out of IRAQ

Memorial DayWhat is interesting is that on the issue of the war, when will some leader say,  “It is time to stop talking about whether it was right or not.  The fact is that we are Americans and we don’t pull out until we know that things will be OK.”  It is too late for second guesses.  This is not another VIETNAM because after we left, there was no slaughter of the innocents.  If there was, where are the mass graves?  There are none.  No one ever talks about human rights abuses with regard to Vietnam.  In IRAQ, it is not the same and until it is stable, we have to be there.  And whether I support the war or not no longer matters. What matters is the safety and security of America and an unstabilzed IRAQ  WILL HURT OUR INTERESTS.

CNN Correspondent On Why We Can’t Pull Out of Iraq

On Thursday, a CNN correspondent just back from Iraq – Michael Ware — was asked if it would help the situation in Iraq to withdraw U.S. troops.Ware answered, “If you just want to look at it in terms of purely American national interest, if U.S. troops leave now, you’re giving Iraq to Iran, a member of President Bush’s axis of evil, and al-Qaida. That’s who will own it. And so, coming back now, I’m struck by the nature of the debate on Capitol Hill, (by) how delusional it is. Whether you are for this war or against it, whether you’ve supported the way it’s been executed or not, it does not matter. You broke it — you’ve got to fix it now. You can’t leave, or it’s going to come and blow back on America.”

Finally, an honest assessment that reflects my views and from a CNN correspondent none the less.

LOG CABIN ASKS SEN. DAVE COGDILL “WWRD – WHAT WOULD REAGAN DO?”

SacramentoLog Cabin Republicans challenged Sen. Dave Cogdill for his vote yesterday on SB 559 in the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee.   Sen. Cogdill voted against AB 559, a bill to lower property taxes unfairly assessed on domestic partners, including senior citizens, after the death of a loved one.  In a letter to Sen. Cogdill, Log Cabin asked him to consider the question WWRD – What Would Reagan Do” when it came voting on cutting taxes.  They noted that President Reagan invited religious conservatives into the party, after they were disappointed with Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party, so long as they supported core Republican beliefs such as lower taxes.  However, those values seem to have been tossed aside and it is seemingly more important to some Republicans to be anti-gay than it is to be anti-tax.
‘We believe choosing pro-tax over anti-gay is not only an abandonment of core Republican principles, but a losing strategy as well. Californians of all political persuasions have moved on past anti-gay attitudes and it is time for the Party to grow up and join them,” said James Vaughn Director of the California Log Cabin Republicans
Vaughn noted that Log Cabin formed at the time that then Governor Ronald Reagan came out against the Brigg’s Initiative which would have allowed teachers to be fired for being gay.
Ronald Reagan believed that there were more important principles to adhere to.  He took that stand 30 years ago, two years before he ran for President.  What was true for Republicans then ought to be true today.”
SB 559  would restore the property tax rates for senior and other domestic partners whose property taxes may have gone up between 2002 and 2005.  Under Prop 13, spouses were exempted from a reassessment of property taxes in the event of the death of a spouse.  That exemption was extended to domestic partners in 2005 by legislation passed by the California legislature and signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.   Unlike Prop 13, that bill was not retroactive.  SB 559 by Senator Christine Kehoe (D-Dan Diego), will make that exemption apply back to 2002 when domestic partnerships were first established.  If during that time one member of a domestic partnership died and the property was reassessed due to the change in ownership and the property taxes were increased, then under this bill the surviving member could apply to have the property tax rate restored to the level at the time of death of the partner.
Domestic Partnerships were created in 2002 for same sex couples and for heterosexual senior citizens over the age of 55 who could not get married for fear of losing pensions and other benefits. Domestic partnerships allow these couples to legally designate someone to act in their behalf in the event of injury, illness or death to handle medical and financial decisions.  One benefit added was to grant the property tax reassessment exemption to protect partners from facing dramatic property tax increases at a time of financial and emotional hardship.
Log Cabin Republicans met with Senator Cogdill’s staff on April 11 to educate him about the importance of cutting property taxes for seniors and other domestic partners.  As fiscally conservative Republicans, SB 559 is one of Log Cabin’s main legislative priorities.
“We support lower taxes as did GOP hero Ronald Reagan.  It is said that true Reagan Republicans seek to cut taxes whenever possible under the belief that taxes belong to the taxpayer.  In the past, those who have voted for tax increases or against tax cuts have been called RINOs or “Republicans in Name Only. It would appear that Sen. Cogdill took that badge for himself yesterday,”  said Log Cabin California Director James Vaughn.
In their letter, Log Cabin also noted that gays and lesbians have won the battle on every issue in California but the battle for same sex marriage.  Log Cabin is moving beyond the social battles in California and focusing more on core Republican issues.
“It seems our job has expanded to include educating Republicans about core Republican beliefs as well as gays and lesbian issues, “ said Vaughn
Log Cabin believes true Republican principles are being lost in the zeal to adhere to (Rev. Lou)  “Sheldon Republicanism” that demands adherence to outdated views on gays and lesbians to the point that any GOP principle or constituency can be tossed aside to avoid displeasing him.

Abortion Aside, Conservative Christians Like Giuliani for 2008

A Los Angles Times poll found that Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the top choice for president among white conservative Christians.  His 26% of the vote is more than double that of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) or Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA).  However, the poll also showed that much of his support could dwindle if former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-TN) jumps in the race.  Social conservatives say that security and strong leadership matters more to them than social issues.  Read the full report here.

California Republican Assembly: Out Of Step With Mainstream Republicans

Looking at the National polls for the GOP contenders as compared to the CRA’s number, which recently held its convention, I find the CRA numbers out of step with mainstream Republicans.  Here are the results of the CRA Presidential Straw Poll:

Fred Thompson (25%)
Duncan Hunter (19%)
Mitt Romney (19%)
Ron Paul (12%)
Tom Tancredo (8%)
Newt Gingrich (7%)
Rudy Guiliani (7%)
Sam Brownbeck (3%)
Mike Huckabee (0%)
Tommy Thompson (0%)

When I think of Presidents, I also think of First Ladies and I believe the Jeri Thompson does not have the poise and sophistication of Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, or Nancy Reagan to pull it off. The 25 yr younger Jeri looks like a Britney Spears wanna-be. I think she would be a “Negative” on the campaign trail. I cannot imagine her serving tea in the White House or even using Nancy Reagan’s China.

CastroMayMay2On May 1, 2007, a march and rally entitled the “2007 Great American Boycott” (SOUNDS LIKE THE OLD U.S.S.R. to me or Havana, 2008) will take place in downtown Los Angeles. Estimates of participants range from 100,000 to 1,000,000. The LAPD, Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) have been planning for the event and are taking preparatory measures. It is anticipated that there will be some impact on employees who work in the civic center. At the present time, businesses have been advised as follows (please keep in mind that the following descriptions and times are both approximate and fluid; there may be other closures at various times not listed):Street closures are expected to begin at 5:00 a.m. These will occur at Judge John Aliso Street between Temple Street and 1st Street; and, Temple Street between Alameda Street and Los Angeles Street. No freeway off-ramp closures are expected until later in the morning. There will be no public bus service from Olive Street to Los Angeles Street and Temple Street to the Harbor Freeway (I-110).

Per the LADOT, “Traffic impacts in Downtown Los Angeles may be felt on any street within the area bounded by Cesar Chavez Avenue to the north, Alameda Street to the east, Washington Boulevard to the south and Flower Street to the west…many roadways in Downtown Los Angeles will be impacted for most of the day. It is impossible to predict either the actual participation level or the location where participants will choose to join the protest or demonstration.”

As the number of demonstrators increases, the area closed off will increase in size. More information on closures will be forthcoming closer to the event.

Marchers will start assembling around 8:30 a.m. at Olympic Boulevard and Broadway. The march route will lead north from the assembly area on Broadway to 1st Street, then east on 1st Street to City Hall south lawn. The marchers are expected to arrive at City Hall for a rally between 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. The rally is scheduled to conclude around 3:30 p.m. Traffic in the area will be affected until 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., approximately.

Supervisors will be working with employees to ensure appropriate staffing levels for May 1st. Employees are strongly encouraged to bring their lunches or eat in building cafeterias due to the anticipated street congestion.

Overstepping Personal Freedoms:Sheryl Crow Proposes Limitation on Toilet Paper Use

Posted by Kevin Norte at 1:45 pm .

Left winger Sheryl Crow is proposing to limit personal freedoms but believes it is a God giving right for people to use toilet paper.  Crow apparently wants to limit the amount of toilet paper a person uses.  She has not state if she wants this policy to be voluntary or if it would be government imposed.    I wish this was not TRUE.

Crow is quoted saying: ”

I propose a limitation be put on how many sqares [sic] of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting.  Now, I don’t want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit,  except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required. When presenting this idea to my younger brother, who’s judgement [sic] I trust implicitly, he proposed taking it one step further. I believe his quote was, “how bout just washing the one square out.”

Just when Governor Schwarzenegger is turning GREEN, and saying things like, “Save the Republic and Save the World”, we have Crow displaying just how far the Green left actually is.

Crow was also at the recent pressclub dinner in Washington and out of place and was harassing Karl Rove about environmental policies.

I find it very disturbing that as the governor of Calfornia is trying to make people understand what it is to be green conscious, Sheryl Crow is showing the world what it is like to be a left-GREEN wing nut.  Her toilet paper tactics will just turn people off.  I bet tonight she will literally be the “butt” of late night jokes.
